Clients within Sonata are not only able to own many products, but may also be known by different numbers from outside the system.
For example:
Tax number
Outlet (or distribution) number
Old product system number
Mainframe interface number
Telephone number
PAYE Reference Number
Since all these numbers may be used to identify the client, other than the unique Sonata number, it is important to maintain a list of these numbers in the system. These are maintained in the Client External References tab screen.
After the number is entered against the client, it is then possible to identify the client using the Client Search Wizard by selecting this reference type from the drop down list in the Client Number box.
All numbers entered into the system must be unique and only one number can be applied against each number type for a client. For example, where a number (like a telephone or tax number) is used, it must be unique to that client.
The PAYE Reference Number has a length of 10 digits and does not contain any characters.
